Griggsy looks ahead to an important season for the 2s!

What do the 2s need to do better as a team?

I think after last season it really is hard to judge what we need to do better. If there is anything, it is to just avoid being complacent and play every game as it comes whilst keeping our standards high. I think at points last season we were beginning to think we would win games regardless of how we played, and having been promoted this is something we won’t be able to do this year.

Aims for the season ahead?

I would really like to think we will be pushing for promotion. The second XI are entering unchartered territory in terms of the league we are playing in as it’s the highest we have ever been but it is arguably the strongest team the twos have ever had. Obviously, it depends on a lot of things such as availability, injuries and keeping people interested, but there is absolutely no reason with the squad we are looking at having that we can’t compete at the top end of the table. It is important for the club to have our teams playing at levels which are competitive and this is something that is so vital for the 2nd XI considering the first team have been promoted. Our Aim not just this year but every year is to shorten the gap between the two teams, and where possible helping the 3rd XI get closer to us.

Excited for the season?

Yeah, after last season where we were extremely successful in both the league and cup competitions it will be good to get out there and try to do it all again. As a club, the last few years have been a massive success and there is no reason why it can’t continue this year. Having been promoted, it will be nice to play against some teams that we haven’t played in a while and play at some new grounds. As a team I think everyone is looking forward to testing themselves at a more competitive level, and hopefully continuing where we left off.
