We can't wait for Saturday - Dan Heath

It’s been a long long wait but Saturday we finally make our debut in the EAPL. Back in September we could never have dreamt that we would be waiting until the end of July to be playing our first competitive game and as disappointed as we are to have missed so much of the summer, we are just relived that we will be able to take to the field at al!!

Although on paper it seems a disappointing pre-season, as a squad I feel we could not be better placed for the challenge ahead. Although you never like to lose games, the experience of the defeat to Mildenhall on Saturday and then to Cambridge on Sunday, really displayed to all the boys what playing at this level entails. We showed glimpses in both games with the bat, ball and in the field but winning at this levels means all 3 need to click at the same time! Last season we could perform at 60/70% and still win games, from now on only 100% will do for us to be competitive and this is something we can’t wait to embrace.

Every game in the EAPL will be an event and a huge challenge and we are certainly ready for that. Losing Haggy for this season is a huge loss, last season his partnership with Waxy was incredible and he is the most experience player in the side and from a captains (and mates) point of view I am missing him hugely!! However I am delighted we have been able to bring in Michael Cafferkey for this season, he is a superb player with Premier League and Minor Counties experience and his style of batting mirrors Haggys. I have been delighted how well another new player George Darlow, has settled into the club! His performance at the weekend against Mildenhall was superb, he’s a smart cricketer and has added an awful lot on and off the pitch!

Our first game this weekend will be away at Saffron Walden who have recruited some superb local players and it will be an incredibly tough game. They are a club that we should aspire to replicate, they established themselves in the EAPL very quickly last year and we need to do the same.

We have for the first time this season a full XI on the pitch and we know where we are at as a team and we can’t wait for Saturday!
