Tibbsy's Weekend Preview!

On Saturday SBCC travel to Frinton-on-Sea to face 2019 EAPL Champions Frinton CC. Sawston are expecting a big following, as the 5th Team have set up an impromptu ‘cricket’ tour. Which unusually for them does involve some cricket! The Frinton ‘Bar flies’ are looking forward to welcoming them and have even challenged them to a future T20 match.

SBCC still sit top of the EAPL South by sum 19 points from Sudbury, who themselves face a tricky visit to third placed Copdock. The only bad news for SBCC as they visit bottom side Frinton is that it appears the home side have started flexing their muscles for the 2021 season, having lost their first six matches they have won their last two. They beat Saffron Walden by 62 runs on Bank Holiday Monday and scored back to back wins by scoring 300+ to beat Copdock by 34 runs, at home, last week. Last week the top five all scored 40+; and over the last couple of weeks although they have shared around the eighteen wickets they have taken Mohammed Ali Iranpana has picked up seven.

SBCC make a just one change with Michael Cafferkey replacing Josh Jordan from the side that snatched a victory at Bury. They will be looking for another victory to keep the pressure on Sudbury and to set up what could be a last day decider, next Saturday at Sudbury. A defeat for Sudbury at Copdock would be fatal for them in the title chase, whereas a defeat for SBCC would still leave them with a chance.

In the individual performances stakes Waqas Hussain sits 5th and Frinton’s Kyran Young and in-form Joshua Rymell 6th ad 10th respectively in the chase for ‘The Golden Bat’. In the race to be top wicket taker ‘The Golden Ball’ we have Callum Guest, Mark Smith and last week’s hero Tim Moses sitting in the top four but a handful of wickets behind Sudbury’s Darren Batch. Dan Heath is one behind his Sudbury counterpart is the race to be top keeper and SBCC’s Ben Clilverd is out on his own for most outfield catches.

On Sunday our T20 side meet Sudbury in the Suffolk Cup T20 Final at Woolpit. The reigning champions Sudbury winners in 2017 and 2019 must go into the final as favourites. However, SBCC’s mixed side of 1st and 2nds all with good T20 pedigree, gained from our Midweek experiences and they will be confident following victories at Mildenhall and Worlington. All in all not a bad debut in the Competition.
