3 games Saturday & 1 Sunday! - Tibbsy's Weekend preview 12.06 - 13.06

Just three games this Saturday with the 1st XI having their shortest trip of the season when they visit Cambridge, at Caldecote. Our local rivals, who we haven’t defeated since a famous win in the Millman Cup days, were until recently languishing at the bottom of the table.

However, their success in the National T20 Group stages, a win in all but name the week before, a win in a tight match at Great Witchingham and an excellent win over Swardeston in the Nation 40-over competition makes the trip a dangerous one. They are likely to feature our old boys Henry Campbell and Peter Richer. Top order bat Daminda Raaaweera has been their top performer but they will also look to their last two captains Johnny Atkinson and Lewys Hill as well as Richer to score runs. Campbell is currently locked in a battle with his ex-opening bowling partner Mark Smith in the contest to be leading wicket-taker in the league. Skipper Hill will again back up his seam attack.

The Rams will be keen to keep the 100% record going as we reach the halfway stage in the season but Cambridge will be equally determined to dent that record.

The seconds are saved from a long trip to Bharat Sports as the away game is switched to Sawston. Nick Griggs’ men will be looking to bounce back following their first defeat of the season last week. The opposition are a dangerous if unpredictable opposition who will be looking to get their own challenge back on track. They currently sit fourth with two wins, two defeats and two cancelled. They come into the game on the back of two excellent wins over Wisbech and Eaton Socon. Ayub Khattak with twenty wickets from just 43 overs is one to watch as is all-rounder Gulub Sher.

The fourths make a short trip into town to play on the famous Parkers Piece against NCI. They will be hoping that history doesn’t repeat itself as in a game in the 80’s someone knicked one of the stumps at tea! On

Sunday the 1st team travel to South Hampstead in the Conference Cup with a mixed side of 1st and 2nd teamers. The final of this competition is played at the County Ground in Chelmsford as is for the two Club sides.
