1s & 3s in action this weekend! - Tibbsy's Weekend Preview 19.06

The Rams 3rd Team will be concentrating on avoiding an unwanted hat-trick when they return to action at the weekend. Two of our hundred percent records have gone in consecutive weeks and Jake Ellis’s men will not want to relinquish their perfect record this week.

They face a tricky home tie when they entertain Ashdon. Ashdon are a bit unpredictable, either winning massively scoring loads of runs or stuttering to defeats. They have three wins and two defeats so far, and sit in fourth just 15 points adrift and appear to have a liberal selection of ex-Saffron Walden players. With the seconds not in action Jake Ellis is able to pick from a full squad.

The first team will be looking to get back to winning ways when they entertain Great Witchingham at Spicers, this will be our first ever meeting. After a bright start to the season they have fallen away of late but are still fourth in the EAPL. Their skipper Sam Arthurton is the leading run scorer in the EAPL with 491 @ 61.38, including one knock of 191 not out. The new ball battle against the EAPL’s leading wicket-taker Mark Smith (25 @ 9.64) should be worth the admission money on its own. Arthurton will be backed up by Hudson Du Lucchi and James Hale with the bat; and Peter Trewick and Andy Hanby with the ball. The skipper will hope that Sunday’s Cup win, where the opener’s found some form which Matthew Hague carried on with a midweek ton can be transferred into EAPL runs and that the middle order can return to form after a couple of blips in recent weeks.
