They think its all over.....

Over the last couple of seasons, the penultimate round of matches has been where the EAPL title winners have been crowned. In 2021 the Rams won at Great Witchingham to seal the title. Last year in the penultimate round, although it was in fact the Rams last game, the Rams retained the title after a fantastic tussle, both on the day and throughout the season, with rivals Mildenhall.

Mildenhall stopped Swardeston’s title procession in its tracks with a stunning victory which at the same time propelled the Suffolk outfit back into the race for a top three finish. Their victory was all the more extra-ordinary given the fact that they have been boosting their own second team in recent weeks in order to preserve their status in the Two Counties Division 1. With Mildenhall seconds still third from bottom it will be interesting to see what side they pick against the Rams. The Rams name an unchanged side from last week. They would like to be still in the title hunt on Saturday night and are hoping that Copdock can spring another surprise as they entertain Swardeston. Perhaps more realistically they will hope that they can secure a win that will guarantee them at least a second-place finish. This would still be a great achievement and one heck of a title defence effort but as the old saying goes ‘but no cigar’! The Rams will also be hoping that Mulbarton have Swardeston’s Peter Lambert in a water tight contract so that he has to keep his footy boots on following his midweek hat-trick.

Elsewhere in the relegation play-off spot battle Wisbech will be hoping that home advantage will help them against Saffron Walden. Horsford, just a handful of points ahead of the Fenlanders face the short trip to Great Witchingham. Witham visit Frinton and hope that they can continue to push for their best ever finish and a chance of a top three finish. Bury face a tricky trip to Sudbury and hope that a victory will enable them to stay on the heals of the Rams.
