Tibbsy's Weekend Preview!

SBCC welcome back old rivals Saffron Walden to Spicers on Saturday. The Crocus will be looking to turn the tables on SBCC following their first day defeat in the EAPL Southern Section. Since that opening defeat, SWCC have had two excellent wins against Bury St. Edmunds and Frinton, and only tasted defeat against Sudbury. They have steadily climbed the Southern Section table and now sit third. Last week with SBCC sneaking in a rain shortened victory over Frinton and nearest rivals Sudbury being frustrated by the weather SBCC will be looking for a fifth successive win to cement their place at the top of the table.

As far as I am aware Dan has a full squad to select from and was waiting until after training to ensure Tim Moses and Callum Guest who played for Cambridgeshire in their win of Essex Second XI were fit. Dan will be looking for a better batting performance, in better conditions, and a continuation of the excellent bowling and fielding performances.

The match will feature the leading two bowlers in the league (both North and South sections) SBCC’s Callum Guest (14 wickets) and SWCC Alex Sears (with 11), Guest will be backed up by George Darlow whose nine wickets have him in sixth in the standings. Sudbury are at home to Frinton a repeat of a game between that no so long ago was deciding the 2019 title.

With SBCC 2nds having a free week SBCC 3rd Team captain had two full squads to choose from for a potential league winning match against Harlton on Saturday. After much thought Jake Ellis has chosen a strong side, but just utilising the players he has used in the season so far resisting the temptation to select from the 2nds. The skipper will be hoping for more runs from Sid Siddarth, Scott Barker and himself, and wickets from pace- aces Mervyn Shaji and Torin Phelps. The role of all-rounders Adam Hodgkisson, Sean Jenkins and Naga ‘Nelson’ Yanamendela could be critical. SBCC need a win and an eleven-point advantage over Harlton to secure the Division O title.

On Sunday the T20 side return to Suffolk to play Worlington in the Suffolk Cup a win for SBCC will guarantee them a place at Finals Day. SBCC name another mixed side of youth and experiences and the skipper will be looking for similar match winning performances from his young stars.
